Biography
Mezzo-soprano Olga van Tongeren was born in 1998 in Haarlem, the Netherlands and studied Classical Voice from 2020 till 2026 at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Sasja Hunnego where she worked with vocal coaches Mirsa Adami, David Bollen and Phyllis Ferwerda. She was part of the Lied and Oratorio Class from Pierre Mak and the Opera Class from Alexander Oliver and Roberta Alexander. In addition, Olga has taken masterclasses with Margreet Honig, Ira Siff and Thomas Oliemans.
Coming from a musical family, Olga started playing the violin when she was five years old. After ten years she changed to singing. In the same period, she took classes in acting and dancing. Besides music, Olga has developed an interest in learning languages, especially Italian, a language that continues to fascinate her.
In December 2023 Olga sang the main role in L’Enfant et les Sortilèges, by Ravel under the baton of Ed Spanjaard at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. For two seasons between 2023 and 2025, she performed Lied recitals with a pianist, mainly in romantic repertoire. This summer Olga will sing her debut role of Cherubino in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro at the Vienna Opera Academy.
From September 2026, Olga will be part of the Advanced Artist Diploma program in Opera at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, for which she has received the RCS scholarship award. She is very much looking forward to working with the RCS team and the Scottish Opera.
